Sacro-Cranial therapy or Cranial Osteopaty is a gentle, hands-on method to evaluate and improve the body’s craniosacral system—which membranes, fluid, and bones surrounding the brain and spinal cord—by releasing deep tensions to enhance self-healing, relieving pain and dysfunction by improving central nervous system function.
It uses a very light touch (around 5 grams of pressure) to address restrictions, promoting the body’s innate ability to self-regulate and find balance, impacting overall health for stress, pain, and various conditions.
It focuses on Self-Healing: It’s not about the therapist “fixing” the client, but guiding the body’s own wisdom to find health from within.
From an evidence-based perspective, sacro-cranial therapy is best understood alongside other low-intensity supportive interventions such as massage or mindfulness practices. Like these approaches, its effects appear to derive primarily from relaxation, focused attention, and the therapeutic encounter rather than from a specific, measurable biological mechanism.
Disclaimer: There is currently no strong scientific evidence supporting the specific theoretical mechanisms of sacro-cranial therapy.
